Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development

The University of Virginia seeks an Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development for its Curry School of Education. The Curry School of Education commands a strong and distinctive presence in the field of education and human development, currently ranked 22nd with the special education program ranked 5th and the secondary education program ranked 7th. Curry maintains a strong research portfolio of approximately $24 million with varying sources of funds to include NIH, United States Dept. of Education, Virginia Dept. of Education, U.S. Dept. of Justice and private Foundations.

The School has a strong commitment to supporting interdisciplinary work in the education and behavioral sciences. University-wide initiatives are currently underway in relation to teacher education and education policy as well as strong cross-departmental collaborations and relationships. Given the increased research portfolio and the varying University wide initiatives the Associate Dean for Research and Faculty development position was established. This position will report directly to the Dean and will have primary oversight as the administrator for research and faculty development in the areas of scholarship quality and research productivity. Key areas of responsibilities include:

• Research Program and Faculty Development - Directs the Curry School’s resources and efforts related to increasing the amount, quality, and scope of research conducted by faculty and graduate students. Develops, implements, and evaluates a system for faculty and graduate student development that includes regular research seminars and brown-bag discussions of works-in-progress. Directly contributes to improvement of the School’s success rate in obtaining sponsored projects and grants in terms of number of proposals, successful proposals, and number of funded faculty.

• Research and Grants Administration: Creates, implements, monitors, and evaluates School-wide policies and procedures in relation to research administration and management. Responsible for the budgeting and management of resources related to research infrastructure, both Pre-award and Post-award;

• Management: Serves as consultant and counselor to the Dean (individually and as part of the Dean’s senior leadership team), faculty, and other administrators on a wide range of research and faculty development policy and procedural matters; brings questions, issues, and resolutions to attention of Dean or others as part of creating and maintaining a smooth functioning operation

• Special Projects and Partnerships: Initiates or participates in various special projects as they come available and collaborates in establishing partnerships that facilitate the research work of the faculty and students. These include developing and coordinating strategic partnerships with school divisions that create opportunities for research and scholarly work as well as partnerships with state agencies to conduct research.

Qualifications
• PhD, EdD, or earned doctorate in field of study and achieved scholarly prominence in a relevant academic discipline.
• Proven track record of scholarly productivity and successful competition for sponsored program support through research grants.
• Experience seeking, obtaining, and managing sponsored program grants and large-scale research projects
• Demonstrates a collaborative and constructive work style
• Familiarity with higher education management systems in the areas of research administration, finance, personnel, and general administration,
• Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal and organization skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities and needs.

CUNY - Faculty

John Jay College of Criminal Justice of The City University of New York is seeking to fill a full-time tenure-track line for Fall 2008 in Quantitative Psychology or Psychometrics at the assistant or associate level with research/publication record
