Senior Research Associate

The Educational Policy Institute (www.educationalpolicy.org <
http://www.educationalpolicy.org> ), a growing nonprofit research and
evaluation firm dedicated to the study of issues related to the expansion of
quality educational opportunities, seeks a Senior Research Associate. Over
the course of the organization’s history, we have conducted policy analysis,
research, and evaluation on issues of postsecondary student retention and
success, student financial aid, literacy, and early childhood education, as
well as numerous other topics related to educational opportunity. Our
clients have included the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the Library of
Congress, National Council on Disability, the North Carolina Department of
Public Instruction, the Texas Education Agency, and numerous local agencies,
school districts and community based organizations.

The Senior Research Associate will work as part of EPI’s research team and
will engage in all aspects of research and evaluation, provide oversight to
various projects, and collaborate with other staff. Activities will include
collecting, organizing, and analyzing data; preparing reports; developing
research and evaluation proposals; managing projects; and securing new
business funding.

Responsibilities
Business Development
· Develops new business opportunities by networking with current and
potential clients and attending selected conferences, preparing proposals
and contributing in other ways to the development process
Project Management
· Participates and/or leads multiple research teams in the execution
of high-quality, multi-level, multi-method research and evaluations in
education settings
· Develops policy analysis, research and evaluation plans
· Coordinates, schedules, and manages research activities,
including, but not limited to, interviews, focus groups, and survey
administration
· Maintains timelines for multiple projects
Data Collection
· Identifies or designs appropriate instrumentation (e.g., surveys,
interview protocols, observation protocols, knowledge assessments) for
responding to research and evaluation questions
· Collects quantitative and qualitative data using appropriate
techniques to ensure reliability and validity
· Organizes and conducts site visits involving multiple data
collection methods
Data Organization
· Formats databases to ensure the availability of useable data
· Oversees support staff in data entry using formatted databases
Data Analysis
· Conduct statistical analyses ranging from descriptive analysis to
multivariate analyses (ANCOVA, GLM, etc.)
· Analyzes qualitative data with general guidelines from project
managers
· Summarize results in written format suitable for consumption by
various stakeholder groups

Qualifications
· Experience in successful business development and proposal writing
· Experience leading, conducting and managing educational research
and evaluation projects that require multiple qualitative and quantitative
research designs and methodologies
· Experience working in the education sector and a demonstrated
familiarity with the policy issues and challenges of public PK-12 education
as well as public, private, and proprietary postsecondary education
· PhD or EdD in social sciences, education, research and evaluation,
or statistical measurement
· Expertise in quantitative and qualitative analysis
· Knowledge of data organization and analysis software for storing,
analyzing, and reporting qualitative and quantitative data
· Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and
coordinate with colleagues at varying organizational levels
· Excellent interpersonal, writing and oral communication skills
· Publications in academic or professional journals or other
professional writing
· Strong project management skills and consultative skills
· Willingness and ability to work flexible hours necessary to
complete tasks
· Ability to travel as needed

The Educational Policy Institute is located in Virginia Beach, VA, and the
successful candidate will be expected to work in that location.

The American Board of Radiology (ABR)

The American Board of Radiology (ABR), the national certification board for physicians in radiology and related fields, is searching for a psychometrician. This position has primary responsibility for designing, developing, implementing and supporting the psychometric activities within the American Board of Radiology. The psychometrician ensures that the best practices and strategies in the field of psychometrics are being utilized in all current and future exams within the three disciplines of Radiology (Diagnostic, Radiation Oncology, and Physics).

The position works closely with division chairs, and specifically with the Initial Certification division chair, and the Associate Executive Director of Administration.

Required Qualifications and Skills:
• Ph.D. in educational or psychological measurement and statistics, educational psychology, or a closely related field.
• Six or more years of experience in an applied measurement or statistical analysis environment.
• Experience designing and conducting psychometric analyses in support of high stakes assessment and computer-based testing.
• Extensive experience in test and item analyses using both classical and IRT models.
• Demonstrated experience as a user of standard data analysis software (e.g. SPSS, SAS, and WINSTEPS).
• Proven ability with modern methods in the areas of standard setting and content validation.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and propose solutions to measurement challenges.

Boston Plan for Excellence (BPE)

Research/Policy Internship

Position description:
A private, non-profit local education foundation, the Boston Plan for Excellence (BPE) partners with the Boston Public Schools (BPS) to ensure each student achieves academic excellence and graduates fully prepared for college. We believe that transforming instruction and re-aligning central policies are crucial to reform efforts. At the direction of the Superintendent, we collaborate with district leadership to research, design, pilot, evaluate, and report on instructional and other initiatives so that successful efforts can be replicated district wide.

BPE is seeking a summer intern for 10-14 hours/week to assist in the development of a community mapping research project to help reveal potential neighborhood stressors/challenges as well as resources in BPS students’ communities. The intern would assist us in developing a neighborhood factor for individual students for the purposes of better understanding their needs. The intern would also help us develop a series of maps to answer key questions about some schools: for example, do certain schools have high concentrations of students with extreme levels of challenge (e.g., exposure to violent crime)? What school- and community-based resources can schools tap into in order to better meet the needs of their students? And what is the relationship of neighborhood distress to key outcome measures, such as student test scores, promotion, and ultimately graduation?

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:
§ Interest in urban education reform and policy issues.
§ Experience with GIS software, such as ArcGIS.
§ Familiarity with census data.
§ Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
§ Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with colleagues.
§ Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel. Experience with statistical programs a plus.
§ Some research experience preferred.
Compensation: $15-17/hour

Boston Connects (BCNX)

Post-doctoral fellowship in quantitative analysis

Boston Connects (BCNX) is a school-based collaboration among Boston Public Schools, community agencies, and Boston College designed to develop a systemic approach to promoting strengths in students’ academic, social-emotional, and physical well-being and alleviating barriers to learning. BCNX seeks a full-time post-doctoral fellow to join its evaluation team. Responsibilities include collaborating in research design, conducting analyses of quantitative data, and aiding in quantitative data management. Required: Ph.D. in statistics, educational measurement, developmental psychology, econometrics, or related field; experience in growth curve analysis, hierarchical linear modeling, and/or propensity score matching analysis. Desired: experience and strengths in collaboration with a data analysis team.

Overview:
The Program Evaluation Specialist will provide leadership and organizational skills needed for full participation in the Department of Elementary and Secondary (DESE) Data Warehouse Project. The Program Evaluation Specialist will take the lead role in rolling out the various aspects of the project that include defining, collecting, extracting, uploading and validating the data as well as providing the training and support to administrators and faculty in the effective and efficient use of the data to inform instruction. The Program Evaluation Specialist will need to be able to design qualitative and quantitative program evaluations in order to help Newton Public Schools (NPS) administrators evaluate the efficacy of instructional programs based on the data.

Reports To: Director of Information Technology


Required Skills:
· Comprehensive knowledge of information technology, database systems, and data integration and analysis processing.
· Ability to explain data analysis, processes, and evaluation methodology to administrators and teaching staff.
· Strong interpersonal and communications skills; ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing.
· Excellent technical, analytical, and organizational skills.
· Experience with business intelligence tools and report writing tools, such as Cognos, Crystal Reports, Microsoft Report Services or similar.
· Knowledge and experience with program assessment and design preferred.
· Knowledge of and experience with managing complex database initiatives in Pre-K through 12 school setting preferred.
· Ability to quickly learn NPS information requirements in order to propose enhancements and respond to challenging needs as they arise.
Performance Responsibilities:
· Lead the effort to create a culture of assessment throughout school district.
· Collaborate with district and school-based Data Assessment teams to define key areas of assessment and evaluation.
· Define and implement a plan to utilize the DESE Data Warehouse to meet Newton’s assessment and program evaluation needs.
· Assess information from multiple sources to measure and evaluate instructional programs and initiatives.
· Extract, transform and load data into the DESE Data Warehouse repository.
· Use both quantitative and qualitative analysis tools to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and initiatives.
· Work with appropriate personnel to develop reports that assess programs and initiatives.
· Collaborate with Data Specialist and K-12 curriculum leaders to provide data and design tools and processes to collect data for common assessments, etc.

Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics or information systems or equivalent degree.
· Master’s Degree in Program Assessment and Evaluation or equivalent experience.
· Demonstrated experience in professional development and effective teaching practices.
