This is a non-tenure track position funded by grants and renewable annually, subject to continued funding and satisfactory performance. The Research Associate will work directly with the Director, Gerald Tindal, Ph.D., and the Director for Research Projects, Leanne Ketterlin Geller, Ph.D., and collaborate with other researchers at BRT. Behavioral Research and Teaching (BRT) is an externally funded research center that conducts studies on an array of issues related to classroom-based assessments as well as large-scale assessment systems aligned to grade level standards. BRT is committed to improving the educational environment for all students by developing trustworthy assessment and information systems to support meaningful learning opportunities for students in K-12 classrooms. BRT works with government agencies and academic institutions in designing, validating, and implementing assessment systems with these primary goals:

1. Improve basic skills measures to monitor progress in reading, writing, and mathematics for a wide range of students.
2. Enhance learning of middle and secondary content subject matter so that all students have the opportunity to develop a broad knowledge base.
3. Provide accessibility to large-scale testing through accommodations and alternate assessment systems so that all students can demonstrate their proficiencies on standards.

Duties/Responsibilities: Develop items and tests, including computer-based assessments delivered across a variety of platforms and incorporating a variety of accommodations. Implement validation studies of new and existing assessment systems. Conduct statistical analyses, write reports and proposals, and give presentations. Develop and maintain effective relationships with local, regional, state, and education agencies on a range of assessment and accountability issues. Contribute to organization governance and operations.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, Special Education or related fields. Expertise in: measurement and evaluation methodologies, classroom-based assessment systems, and large-scale testing programs. Demonstrated research skills in measurement of academic performance and progress of students in K-12 settings, instrument development, and quasi-experimental and evaluation methodologies as well as statistical analytic techniques. Skills in evaluation of program effectiveness with ability to incorporate data analytic procedures appropriate for diverse populations into research, coursework, and professional training. Experience in, or familiarity with, K-12 school systems with an emphasis on bridging classroom assessment systems with academic achievement on large-scale tests. Record of scholarly contributions to the professional literature, ability to secure external funding to support the goals of BRT, or demonstrated potential in these areas. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, collaborate with colleagues in other departments, and work effectively with local, regional, and state educational agencies.

Requirements of this Research Fellowship indicate positions available only to citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

Stipend: $50,000 for a 12 month position.

American Board of Family Medicine
The American Board of Family Medicine is seeking someone to fill the position of Director
of Psychometrics. The major responsibility associated with this position is scoring
examinations, including both statistical analysis and standard setting. Additional
responsibilities include participation in ongoing research, supervising a small research staff,
and advising and assisting Diplomates and examination candidates.
The American Board of Family Medicine is one of 24 major medical specialty boards in the
United States, and is responsible for certifying approximately 70,000 family physicians. In
addition, we are involved with other specialty boards in providing certification in sports
medicine, geriatric medicine, adolescent medicine, hospice care and palliative medicine,
and sleep medicine. We also create and score an examination used by family medicine
residency programs to evaluate 10,000 trainees each year. The Director of Psychometrics
will be particularly involved with our primary certification examination, the residency
examination, and the sports medicine examination.
The ABFM also develops additional materials for our maintenance of certification process,
which is gradually being implemented over a period of several years. Future research will
be directed toward evaluating the effectiveness of these materials and processes. In
addition, we will be evaluating our scoring processes, and researching the effect of
imposing different examination assembly and standard setting procedures.
The Director of Psychometrics reports to the ABFM Senior Vice-President, and also interacts
with other executive and supervisory staff, as well as the Board of Directors. This is a fulltime,
in-house position, with a university faculty appointment available. Candidates must
have a doctoral degree in a field related to testing and measurement. The ideal candidate
will also have will have large-scale testing experience and will have published in peerreviewed
literature.

The Graduate Management Admission Council® is a not-for-profit education organization of leading graduate business schools worldwide, dedicated to creating access to and disseminating information about graduate management education. The organization sponsors the Graduate Management Admission Test® (GMAT®), used as part of the admissions process by graduate management programs around the world. Key near-term objectives of the GMAC® are to update the GMAT® and to diversify the company's product line.
This position is responsible for research and development activities designed to enhance the psychometric quality and integrity of current and future GMAC® products and services. The primary activity is to assure that the GMAT® testing program maintains the highest possible validity and reliability for all candidates. In that capacity, the Psychometrician assists in monitoring the psychometric characteristics of the GMAT® and conduct research aimed at better understanding the GMAT® and other predictors of academic success in graduate business education. This position also provides expertise and support to GMAC® as it advances the Council's mission and strategic agenda as it considers new graduate management assessments.
Primary Responsibilities

* Assist in the understanding of the GMAT® by analyzing characteristics of test items, item pools, item response data, and the results of simulation studies.
* Design and conduct research projects to collect evidence of validity and investigate the properties of the current assessment instruments.
* Design and conduct research designed to enhance the quality of graduate management admissions and assessments.
* Provide technical solutions to issues regarding validity studies.
* Monitor the GMAT® CAT operations on item exposure, item/pool use, and score quality targets.
* Provide technical responses to internal and external inquiries on GMAC® assessment products.
* Lead on projects in developing new assessment products.
* Provide mentoring support to junior members in the Department of Research and Development.
* Provide consultation to other departments on assessment and psychometric issues.
* Maintain currency with developments in the psychometric field, especially other large scale admission testing programs.
Minimum Qualifications
· Ph.D. in psychometrics or a related field. · Two to ten years of post-doctoral testing work experience · Track record of preparing a range of communication products, including scholarly publications, internal reports, and reports for non-technical audiences.
· Working knowledge and skills with a commercial statistical analysis package, such as SAS, SPSS, or S+.
Desired Requirements
· Experience in operating a testing program
· Demonstrated experience in analyzing large scale assessment data

· Skill with a programming language and SPSS.
· Ability to create a project plan and execute it, on time and on budget

· Ability to write and edit clear reports for a variety of audiences
· Ability to prepare and deliver effective briefings on complex and technical topics to audiences outside the testing community
· Ability to work across departments and functions and with people of varied professional & cultural backgrounds
· Willing to travel as needed to perform job functions
· Ability to think strategically, advocate a position, initiate and design projects, work independently and in groups, and prioritize and schedule activities.
· Ability to thrive in a rapidly growing organization.
