Consultants needed for Observations in Pre-Kindergarten Centers, Classrooms, and Homes
(Must be available for training 4/27-4/30)

Consultants needed to visit Pre-Kindergarten centers, classrooms, and homes as part of a statewide study funded by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. Consultants sought by Abt Associates Inc., a social science research firm in Cambridge, MA.

Description
Involves conducting standardized observations of Pre-Kindergarten centers, classrooms, and homes. Rigorous training on observation measures and protocols (e.g., Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS)) will be provided by Abt Associates.

Qualifications
Experience with young children or early childhood education preferred. Experience with research and/or data collection observations a plus. Bilingualism strongly desired but not required. Consultants should be able to work independently and have access to the internet. Need to be organized and attentive to detail. Need to have own transportation.

Dates and Time
Must be available at least three mornings per week. Hours somewhat flexible depending on schedule of consultant. Must be able to attend a four-day training in Cambridge, MA running from Monday, April 27th through Thursday, April 30th. Data collection will continue until mid-late June 2009 with additional data collection possible in fall 2009.

Location
Observations will occur across Massachusetts; observers will be assigned to sites located as close to their homes as possible. Four-day training in Cambridge, MA.

Compensation
Commensurate with experience, $16-$18/hour. Consultants will be responsible for their own transportation, but approved travel expenses will be reimbursed. Consultants will be needed on a part-time basis.

University of Denver’s Morgridge College of Education

The University of Denver’s Morgridge College of Education invites applications for a tenure track position in Quantitative Research Methods at the rank of Assistant Professor. The QRM program offers a master’s and doctoral degree.

Responsibilities include: teaching graduate courses such as introductory and advanced research methods, program evaluation, single subject design, and mixed methods as well as introductory quantitative courses in a learner-centered program, and supervising master’s and doctoral theses in quantitative designs and quantitative data analysis. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The appointment will commence on September 1, 2009.

Required qualifications: The successful candidate will possess: either a doctoral degree in quantitative research methodology in education or social science research and program evaluation or will have completed such a degree by the end of the first quarter of the appointment; an active program of research with a focus on research methodology in education or related fields; and effective oral and written communication skills.
Desired qualifications: The successful candidate will have an excellent academic record of teaching quantitative research methods and program evaluation, publication in appropriate journals, and evidence of mentoring of students.

Search Institute

The research director will serve on the Search Institute's Senior Management
Team, develop and lead major research projects, supervise the research
staff, maintain research partnerships, and participate in projects that

Qualifications
. Doctorate and demonstrated expertise in a research-related field, such as
educational psychology, developmental psychology, sociology, or human
development.
. At least 10 years of experience in quantitative or qualitative research in
related content areas.
. At least 5 years of supervisory and management experience in a research
environment.
. Strong data analysis and writing skills leading to peer-reviewed
publications.
. A demonstrated record of successful fundraising and grant management for
research projects.
