U.S. Department of Transportation / Volpe National Transportation Systems Center

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES AT THE VOLPE CENTER

Interested in applying psychology to the technical field and getting paid to do it?

Want to be on the cutting edge of experimental psychology by working to improve the nation’s transportation systems?

Human error is currently thought to contribute to between 60 and 80 percent of all transportation accidents. As a result, one of the greatest challenges in transportation is to design technology and procedures that reduce the probability of such error by taking human behavior and capability into account.

The Human Factors Division of the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center in Cambridge, MA is looking for up to 4 undergraduate students to work part time during the Fall 2008 semester and possibly longer.

Student Trainee (Psychology)
$12.28 – $15.42/hr (based on education and/or experience)

Primary Duties:
- Analyze human capabilities and limitations in human machine interactions
- Data reduction and analysis of human performance measurements to determine the relationship between conditions and human performance
- Plan and implement data collection, data management and statistical analysis of behavioral data derived from simulation research
- Support ongoing research activities
