Job Description: Data Analytics Programmer Analyst
GENERAL CLASSSIFICATION DESCRIPTION:
Support the programming and analytics needs of MITs fundraising initiatives. Employ data mining,
predictive modeling, survey design, and statistical techniques to help identify, classify, understand and
cultivate prospects capable of making philanthropic contributions to and serving in volunteer capacities
for MIT.
Characteristic Duties
Retrieve, query and append data from internal databases and external data sources such as electronic
screening services, census records, surveys, focus groups, demographic studies, etc. and use various
software tools (SPSS, ArcGIS, etc.) to analyze and present the data relative to specific development
needs.
Work as a member of the programming team to analyze client information systems problems, determine
viable alternatives, design solutions when applicable and develop specifications to meet those needs.
Serve as a member of the Data Analytics Committee and assist in the identification of relevant topics
and issues to be examined.
Programming:
• Analyze client information systems problems and determine their needs
• Define viable alternative solutions to client information system problems
• Design systems solutions and develop the specifications to meet the needs of the clients
• Ensure that the testing of new or modified programs is thorough and correct
• Document new programs or modifications to existing programs according to departmental
standards
• Maintain effective communications with clients, other team members, area managers and other
members of the department.
• Provide on-call support for assigned production system(s)
• Assist users and more junior IS staff with systems problems and answer any systems-related
questions that they may have
• Apply established project management guidelines when functioning in the capacity of a project
leader
• Attend classes and seminars to develop and maintain knowledge of currently accepted
programming standards, techniques and trends
• Perform other related tasks as assigned
Data Mining, Modeling, Statistical Analysis and Reporting:
• Support the overall analytics needs of MITs fundraising initiative. Employ data mining,
predictive modeling, survey design, and statistical techniques to help identify, classify,
understand and cultivate prospects capable of making philanthropic contributions to and serving
in volunteer capacities for MIT.

• Synthesize information and disseminate results through written reports, maps, charts, graphs and
presentations.
Vendor, Knowledge & Data Resource Building & Management:
• Participate in the evaluation and selection of vendors of external screening services.
• Identify sources of data on campus and manage the interactions and relationships with data
owners.
• Contribute to the department’s knowledge basis and resource development of industry and
profession specific data and reference information.
Special Projects:
As needed, participate in the planning and execution of projects designed to advance knowledge about
fundraising activities at MIT.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Supervision is received from the Director of Programming and Systems Support, with functional
supervision from the assigned project leader when applicable.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May function as project leader and/or exercise functional supervision over one or more other staff
members.
CONTACTS REQUIRED TO PERFORM DUTIES:
Frequent contact with clients, other team members, area managers and other members of the department.
Also with users and more junior IS staff with systems problems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of three-years SQL programming
• Minimum of three years in fundraising, market research and/or relevant experience desirable
• Proficiency and understanding of data mapping, data mining and statistical software tools
• Proven research and analytical techniques, emphasizing the ability to gather, evaluate and synthesize
complex sets of data from various sources
• Knowledge of Sungard Advance, Advance Web, Crystal Reports very desirable
• Ability to present information in a clear and cohesive manner
• Ability to present technical information to non-technical users
• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and meet challenging and changing deadlines
• High degree of professionalism, discretion and commitment to confidentiality
• Excellent written and oral communications skills
