GED Testing Service of the American Council on Education (ACE) is the developer and distributor of the Tests of General Educational Development (GED Tests). The GED Tests have been used since 1943 to certify the high school-level academic achievement of non-high school graduates. In 2006, over 714,000 candidates in the U.S. and internationally took one or more of the five tests in the GED Tests battery. ACE is conveniently located in Downtown DC.

GEDTS is seeking a lead psychometrician as it starts development of the 2011 Series GED Tests and introduces IRT into test development practices. The psychometrician will report to the Director of Psychometrics and Research and work within a unit of 7 staff.

An earned doctorate in psychometrics or a closely related field and a minimum of 2 years experience with applied test development is required. Responsibilities include but are not limited to providing psychometric expertise related to new and ongoing test development initiatives; conducting standardization, equating, and test validation studies; collaborating with external psychometric panels; supervising summer intern. Potential for publication opportunities and collaborative research with external researchers. Conference travel accounts for approximately 2 weeks per year. The ideal candidate must possess the following personal and professional skills, attributes and experience:

* Strong technical background in applying IRT and CTT to large-scale assessments
* Experience designing and conducting applied psychometric studies
* Experience preparing and presenting written and oral reports for general and technical audiences
* Proficiency with computer applications including SAS and IRT software
* Ability to work individually with minimal supervision and as part of a team
